Blackened brass headdress badge with 2 loops to reverse. Formed in 1859. Subsequently were 23rd Middlesex (Inns of Court RVC) in 1881. Renamed 14th Middlesex Inns of Court RVC in 1889. I don't know whether this was a kepi or a shako badge
