Royal Engineers Inland Water Transport WWI

Very scarce brass shoulder title with 2 loops to reverse. Formed as a section of the REs in December 1914 to develop transport on canals and waterways on the Western Front. Originally under the Director of Railways but developed very quickly and became Inland Water Transport by a special directorate in October 1915. Ref Westlake p43
